‘Articles of faith’: global warming infomercials masquerading as news
Some parts of the earth are warming. That much we can all agree on, but here are just a couple of the inconvenient truths you won’t find among the “articles of faith” which the overwhelming majority of mainstream media is spewing forth concerning global warming.
First, “while the earth’s northern hemisphere has warmed about two degrees Fahrenheit since the Industrial Revolution began, there is equally compelling satellite data suggesting that the rest of the world is actually cooling.” Melting Releases Riddles on Global Warming,
Second, media outlets published lengthy articles spotlighting 1600 scientists who signed a petition warning of the negative consequences of global warming, and more recently, what USA Today gushingly called the “gold-standard” Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) whose 2000 “scientists” warned that our consumption of “coal, fuel, and natural gas is to blame for global warming.” What they didn’t tell you was about the “17000 scientists who signed a petition stating that there’s no convincing evidence that green house gases will disrupt the earth’s climate.” But if one were to take the USA Today article (a good example of journalism in the main) at face value, you’d conclude that only a moron could think that the global warming trend is caused by anything other than human beings. The myriad voices on the other side of the debate are conveniently left out of this infomercial masquerading as news. For the uninitiated, that’s called cherry picking the data.
Third, did you know that “while sea ice has diminished in the
These examples are only the tip of iceberg when it comes to the evidence which counters the “melting cult’s” claim that carbon dioxide emissions are to blame for the current melt down.
If you think that’s a ruse consider this staggering statistic: “ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN failed to question global warming theories 97 percent of the time.” This is in spite of the conflicting evidence and information available. Why aren’t the global warming proselytizers reporting the other side? Given the vast resources these outlets have at their disposal for gathering news, it’s inconceivable that they are ignorant of “the rest of the story.” Yet, the other side of the news is rarely reported.
I can only conclude that the misrepresentation of the facts is deliberate and that subsequently, a fraud has been, and continues to be perpetrated on the public. The media can church up their reports all they like, calling it journalism, but no amount of rhetoric can disguise the fact that mainstream media has fallen from the pure faith. You can call the content released by mainstream media “information”; you can describe it as sermonizing, proselytizing, or biased reporting; you can even call it dishonest, but whatever you do don’t call it journalism.
You put a link to the petition. I’m assuming you didn’t even read the article you linked to. Here’s a few snippets. The petition tried to link itself to the National Academy of Science. They did not represent the NAS nor did they have any formal ties to it. 86% of the respondents did not list their degrees although that was a requirement. There were duplicate names on the petition. All of the names could not be verified. The petition claimed that according to satellite and balloon data during times of high levels of CO2 the earth actually cooled. Unfortunately, at the time the petition was written there was no way for them to know that, and upon further review it turned out the data showed the earth was “warmer”. Those signing could check a box and request more petitions for distribution. The list contained fake names including “Robert Byrd” the Congressman, “Geri Halliwell, the Spice Girl” “John Grisham, the author” among several others. The article attached to the petition never went through peer review.
What else is there to say?
I guess there is one more thing to say. Either you simply didn’t read the article you linked to or you did and assumed others would “just take your word for it”. Talk about “misrepresentation”, and being “dishonest”.
Oh, one more thing again. When they say “Global Warming” that doesn’t mean that there will be no places where it’s still cold or even colder. As you know, warm air when it meets cooler air can create snow storms, ice storms etc. It doesn’t mean that the air will always be warmer. It simply means that we will have unpredictable weather patterns because overall the earth’s temperature is rising. And to dismiss a two degree rise in temperature is interesting. Salt water freezes around 27-28 degree F. A rise of 2 degrees means it doesn’t freeze anymore. There you go playing loose with the facts again. If you say “only 2 degrees” it doesn’t seem like much does it?
Fast and loose with facts? How about your salt water freezing line. Hmmm… sea water magically freezes at 27-28 F hunh? Well then I guess the bottom of the ocean is just one big block of ice, seeing as how the temperature at the sea floor is 3 Degrees F (http://www.wsg.washington.edu/publications/seastar/archive/storyarchives/extremes.html)
I’m with you on the world warming though. Whew- just this last december it was so nice and cold. Dang all that CO2 for making the next few months unbearable! Oh, if I had only known the world would get warmer, I could have bought shorts and t-shirts on sale! Now I have to pay full price to be comfortable. Curse this unpredictable warm weather!!!!
