I was watching the news this morning, like I do everyday. And, I caught General David Petraeus as he addressed a House appropriations subcommittee — voicing his concern about recent insurgent “homicide” bombings in Iraq. Gen. Patraeus warned that the progress in Iraq is still “fragile and reversible.” Then, in the background, I saw something a bit peculiar. A small sign rose from the small crowd of spectators, just over the general’s right shoulder. It said “FUND DIPLOMACY, NOT WAR.” Is it sinful to want to punch a stranger in the mouth? Forgive me, Lord.
Why are there so many people that want us to be a weak, pansy-France country that is just asking to be attacked? I don’t get it, what’s the purpose of being “liked” by spineless countries, when terrorist groups pose the greatest threat to our peace? I doubt that Al Qaeda is shaking in their boots because they saw Obama kissing Hugo Chavez square on the keister. They’re probably laughing at us.
Then you have this crap about “waterboarding.” There are actually some folks that still think that it was wrong that we waterboarded Khalid Shaikh Mohammed (9/11 mastermind). Of course, we were able to get information that thwarted future attacks and saved American lives. But, apparently to some people, waterboarding is “torture.” Do you think having your fingers cut off, being electrocuted, having your legs broken, and having water “poured in your face” are all equally, torture? Give me a break. If waterboarding is so “cruel” and despicable, then why do we use it on our own soldiers like Colonel Oliver North? He was routinely waterboarded in military training, and you don’t see him suing the government, do you?
I want my country back. I like the idea that the world fears the wrath of the United States. What’s wrong with that? Do these idiot libtards really think that our enemies will say, “well, we were going to implement a terrorist attack on America, but now that they have become so ‘nice,’ we just can’t follow through with it. LIFE TO AMERICA!” Come on, really? I can’t even fathom what goes on in the anti-war hippie’s mind. I know what doesn’t, though — rational thought, reasoning and logic.
“Fund Diplomacy Not War.” What does that mean, anyway? When you were in school, did you know any bullies? How many blokes made peace by walking up to the bully and saying, “excuse me Mr. Bully, but can we just talk this out?” None. Bullies are bullies by definition. They want what they want and have no concern for the people in their way.
So, I suggest we gather up all of the anti-war hippies and send them over to the Middle East, armed with BFF necklaces and copies of “We Are the World.” Then, we would really witness the power of diplomacy.

The problem is not the sentiment; it's the lack of a forethought, the lack of an after thought, and the absence of understanding cause and effect relationships–an inability to deal with reality. Saying, "Make peace, not war." is a wonderful sentiment. So is, "Fund diplomacy, not war." Unfortunately, the hippie crowd doesn't realize that war is what has protected diplomacy. Often, war, or the threat of war has fostered both diplomacy and peace. Would that we lived in a perfect world where we could just calmly explain our point of view like, "Make peace not war," and those who are our enemies would simply reply, "Oh yeah. That makes sense. Sorry about that; I won't be sending suicide bombers in to kill you, after all." But that's not the world we live in, is it? The left can't fathom a world where terrorists DON'T share our values.
But, Chad, we haven’t tried the BFF necklaces, yet. I think we should at least give ‘em a try before we dismiss their effectiveness. Why are you such a hater?

The problem is that the founding fathers created a country that allowed people to choose to be Christians, but still live here even if they didn’t. They didn’t force anyone to go Christian.
A better way would have been to make a country where if you didn’t want to be Christian, you had to go. Your freedom is to leave. It’s like your home when you grow up. Do your parents let you do whatever you want, or do they tell you “my house, my rules”?

I wouldn’t say (and you probably agree) that allowing people the freedom to choose is a problem. Also, if only Christians were allowed to stay in the U.S., it wouldn't be any different than any dictatorial country where dissent is squashed and punished.

Your point that people are the ones messing up the government has great validity.
That is why the founding fathers delineated the role of government, its limits and accountability to the people.
Unfortunately, the government has grown by leaps and bounds, making the "people" in charge of it forget their responsibility to the other people (us). Continuing in the same trend Congress is on a runaway shopping-spree with every pork barrel its greedy mind can concoct.
It is time that we make our voice heard and, imo, the Tea Parties have started that. No, it shouldn't end there and I don't believe it will.

there is no denying that this nation, unlike all other nations, was founded on Christian principles. That, does not infer the Founding Fathers had plans to turn it into a "Christian" nation. Their goal was for every man. woman and child to to live free from oppression and tyranny and to enjoy life and freedom to the fullest (of each abilities).
The Declaration of Independece states:

While not all the F.F. were Christians, some were Deists, they shared a belief in the existence of a Creator.
Once, you start removing God, as it has happened in the last 40-50 years from the public square, the schools, the government, people are left to what "it's right in their own eyes." The consequences are clear to see.
True that sinful, lost men cannot save the world. In fact, they cannot even save themselves. Christianity was never meant to be sanctioned as a State religion, as it's the custom in other countries, with their particular brand of beliefs.
Having said that, Christians have the duty and the priviledge to share the gospel with those who are lost. Just as they once were in the same predicament. They also have the responsibility to counteract evil in whatever form is found, with truth and love.

Maybe true, but would you rather try having a moderated conversation with the bully or go try to launch cruise missiles at him? And that’s not even what we’re doing! It would be one thing to actually take on the terrorists, if that’s what was happening! We need to focus on REAL terror states… or even better the states that fund GENOCIDE like Darfur for instance.

For fear of turning this into an intelligent conversation, I will address each of your points, one at a time, in hopes that you will not be motivated to change the subject or invoke yet another red herring.

Some people have absolutely no respect for life (kind of like the pro-abortion crowd). Simply explaining to them that what they are doing is wrong makes no difference. Like abortionists, they are motivated by their own self-interests and have found a way to justify their despicable actions in their minds. If I can’t make an American believe that sucking out the brains of a healthy late-term pregnancy is bad, how can I reason with people that teach their children to blow themselves and innocents up for political gain? Plus, the subject at hand was ongoing funding for a war that started six years ago, your point here is inconsequential. Regardless of your or my opinions, the war is taking place. At some point, you have to “lower” yourself, and then make an educated decision based on the current circumstances. See point 2.

Again, you must forget “how” the war began and face the reality of the present. Whether or not Iraq was a terrorist state in 2003 has little to do with the fact that Al Qaeda is in Iraq now. The fact that you are still arguing this point shows that you have more disdain for the Bush administration than you do for Al Qaeda. That is quite sad. If you had your way, we would stop funding the war and punish Bush, but then, just as we did in Vietnam, we would sacrifice hundreds of thousands of Iraqi lives just to prove that Bush was wrong. Wow, you’re such a peace-lover.

Well, I will start a “send Joe to France” fund, and we could make that happen. The truth is that the “mean old USA” has consistently saved the butts of the uppity liberal ladies called France. You have every right to criticize this country, because men and women have died to give you that right.
Just remember this: you cannot have a “moderated conversation” with people that are willing to kill themselves in order to kill you. Ron, I think we should send him not to France, but to Iraq. I think we should send him with a petition to stop the violence. He can roam the streets, engaging RPG-carrying bullies in unmoderated discourse and get them to sign the petition. Then, assuming his head is still attached to his shoulders, he can take his petition to France and have them submit it to the United Nations.
He can then return to the U.S. in triumph, riding a glistening white Unicorn. While Bigfoot serenades him, and UFOs drop fireworks on the crowds of adoring fans.
