Will the Republican Party ever figure it out?

Every year, about this time I get a census form mailed to me from the Republican National Committee. This year was no exception.

The questionnaire came with a cover letter explaining how desperate the RNC is to know exactly what Republicans at the grassroots level want with regard to the party’s agenda.

And why is the RNC so interested in knowing what bottom feeders like us think? Mostly because they lost power in 2006 to the Democratic Party. According to the letter I received from the RNC, “For the first time since the 1990 election, the Democrats turned out more of their liberal voters than we did Republican voters.” Imagine that.

Part of the reason for that loss of power was the growing unrest with the war effort, and high profile scandals which rocked the party in 2006. I’d also like to mention that the Republican Party has no real interest in being fiscally responsible, in cleaning up corruption, or in seriously passing legislation which upholds the values of social conservatives—all tenets of true classical conservativism.

Instead, the Republican Party has become just as bloated, arrogant, condescending, and wayward (sorry, I left out power hungry) as that liberal iconoclast, the Democratic Party. So, it’s little wonder that classically conservative voters like me are only supporting the party because it’s just slightly better (write that as not quite as bad) than the alternative, the Democratic Party. That also explains why many of us are desperately looking for a party which accurately reflects our values, and doesn’t waste time and money taking a census to answer questions which have already been fielded by great conservative thinkers throughout history.

A small sampling of the nebulous and stupid questions in the RNC census are as follows:

  1. If Democrats try to gut the USA Patriot Act and other important laws that promote the safety and security of all Americans, should Republicans in Congress fight back?

  2. Should Republicans renew the fight for a Balanced Budget Amendment?

  3. Should Republicans in Congress oppose the new wasteful government spending programs proposed by the Democrats and their leaders, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid?

Let’s take that first question regarding the Patriot Act. (1) What exactly does our party mean when they use words like “gut”? Yes…I know; something is being removed from the legislation in question. But what exactly is being removed? How can you even begin to answer a question like that unless you know some of the details? It’s sufficiently vague so as to tell you absolutely nothing, other than the Dems have plans to make laws written to protect us worthless. Okay…I’ll oppose that. I mean, what other answer can you give to such a question? It’s a no brainer, right? So why even ask it? But wait; it gets worse.

If you’ll review the last two sample questions you’ll see what I mean. Should Republicans “fight for a Balanced Budget Amendment” and should they oppose “wasteful government spending by the Democrats and their leaders?” Hmmm…let me think about that. I’m not sure. Naaah…I think you guys should just continue doing like your liberal counterparts: invest in pork and spend like there’s no tomorrow.

BTW, here’s a little suggestion. How about rewording the question so that last part reads: “wasteful government spending by the Democrats, the Republicans, and their leaders?” Well, we wouldn’t want to do that because we all know here in the land of Oz Republicans have been more fiscally responsible than Democrats by at least a couple of dollars or so. Aside from that, why a party, which claims to be conservative, even has to ask a question like that of its constituency is lost on me.

P.S. If anyone from the RNC is reading this, you can save the party the expense of conducting moronic censuses like this in the future by following this link and reading the contents of the site. F.Y.I. the ideas presented on the Pax Americana site reflect how your base thinks and what we expect from our elected officials. GET A CLUE!

One Response to “Will the Republican Party ever figure it out?”

  1. You better be careful Chad. You question too much and you’ll start getting threats from the Kool-Aid drinkers as well.

Anyone who still believes the GOP is the “Party of Morality, Fiscal Responsibility, Christianity, Honor, Dignity etc etc” is a damn fool and should have their ability to vote rescinded.

I’m glad you’re seeing the light, but I’d also love to hear from you about how this Administration is setting up either itself or a future Administration to rule this country with absolute Authority.

Any true “Conservative” should not only be upset with this Administration’s “Smoke’em if you Got’em” policy when it comes to spending, but also by it’s complete lack of respect for the Constitution and the Separation of powers.

Anyone who criticizes this President can have their phones tapped, their emails intercepted, their assets frozen, they can even be arrested all without court supervision or any formal charges.

The fact that this power is now in place is not only ominous, it’s anti-thetical to the very ideals and principles of a Democracy. It’s no longer “We the People,” if it ever was, but “Me the People.”

I wish Americans, more Americans, would wake up, and understand that it’s time to spit out the Kool-Aid.
