"I congratulate the Commission on an excellent report. It closely
parallels my tax relief plan and supports all of its key principles:
major and immediate property tax relief for homeowners; permanent
taxpayer protection through the use of constitutional caps; reducing
property taxes by transferring selected levies to the state;
professionalizes the current assessment system; puts strong spending
controls at the local level; utilizes the sales tax as the preferred
mechanism to provide property tax relief.
"Coupled with the stated action plans of leadership in both houses of
the General Assembly, this bipartisan report makes it even more likely
that Hoosier homeowners will see immediate property tax relief and
long-term taxpayer protection passed during the 2008 legislative
session."
