Obama’s legislative accomplishments speak for themselves
I almost felt sorry for Senator Kirk Watson of Texas who in this video was endorsing Obama, but couldn't name a single legislative accomplishment of Obama. I say "almost" because it's true; as a supporter and defender of Obama, he should have been able to name at least one accomplishment. He couldn't deliver and you'd like to think that Obama's supporters would have more to offer as a reason for voting for the man than, "he inspires." To which I say, yeah…so does Osama Bin Laden, but I wouldn't vote for him if he were running for the office of President of the United States.
With that background, let's be fair. Watson got ambushed in this interview. So what if he couldn't name Obama's legislative contributions. The fact that Watson couldn't name an accomplishment doesn't mean that Obama hasn't accomplished anything. It could just mean that Senator Watson is ignorant of the things Obama has accomplished. Anyway, like Mathews' colleague said, this wasn't "hardball"; but in my book it sure looked like dirty pool. If Mathews wanted to find out Obama's accomplishments why not ask the senator himself, or just look it up. The whole thing looked like a set up by an allegedly unbiased media to pimp Hillary Clinton's campaign.
A pox on Chris Mathews for this shameless display. This segment would have been better if it had been aired on Entertainment Tonight…or at least it might have been improved if he had given Clinton the same treatment. In any case, while it was certainly good for a laugh, it hardly qualified as political news, but it did have the intended effect. It made an outspoken Obama supporter look pretty darned foolish and by extension Obama himself. I just thought it was a tasteless way to underscore a fact we all knew anyway.
