Fox Nation headline on Obama book draws fire

Fox Nation totally stepped in it this week with the release of President Barack Obama's new book, Of Thee I Sing: A Letter to My Daughters. Fox did a very short news story on the book and couldn't resist sensationalizing the headline to read: "Obama Praises Indian Chief Who Killed U.S. General." You can read the full story on this over at Yahoo's news blog, Cutline.

Reporter, Michael Calderone, did a story on it over there, which raised my ire for a couple of reasons, not the least of which was Fox's editorial department showing their collective asses with regard to the headline for their story on Obama's book. Before dealing with Fox, however, I'd like to start my critique with Michael Calderone.

Got a question for Michael: Does he consider this piece he wrote to be news? Because the following quote taken from his piece certainly isn't:

"Several bloggers and Fox critics quickly jumped on the site's overheated reaction to the children's book."

While agree with Michael's opinion that the headline writer's reaction to the book was "overheated." his opinion AIN'T news. A long time ago there was a thing they used to teach in college and even in high school. It was called journalism. An article should be balanced and not contain even a scintilla of the reporter's opinion. It should be news, rather than an opinion piece which contains news…or in Michael's case, a news piece which contains his opinion. (NOTE: Do us all a favor and leave the opinion writing to the opinion writers, Michael.)

That said, Fox Nation further erodes its credibility every time it sensationalizes a news story with an idiotic headline. I mean, of all the dumb, moronic, stupid things to do. I expect this from the local newspaper, not from a media outlet the size of Fox, which boasts of its fair and balanced approach to the news. Good God you guys; all the guy did was write a book about great Americans and dedicate it to his daughters. He doesn't have enough problems right now with his presidency reduced to a stinking, oozing, writhing mass of sun baked rotting garbage? Seriously, who the hell is going to clean up that mess? And now this.

What's especially funny about Michael's story is all the Lefty nutroots coming out of the woodwork to condemn Fox. Funny, because I see this kind of shameless sensationalism every day from the Leftwing mainstream media outlets, and none of the moonbats who are crying foul over Fox's sins make so much as a peep. Their arrogance is only matched by their colossal hypocrisy. As long as the "offending" outlets are in their ideological camp, they can editorialize and sensationalize the news at will, and looney left is just fine with it. But the moment an organization or individual on the other side does it, these morons wanna play "gotcha." They're too arrogant to realize that they make themselves look foolish every time they do it. Still, I'm glad Michael Calderone pointed out Fox's wingnuttery, even thankful. Fox knows better. And maybe next time they'll think twice before joining the liberal media in their stupidity….or not.

Todd Young agrees to be held accountable by voters…Sodrel and Hankins decline

THIS is what will REALLY change America—in a GOOD WAY  !!!   Todd Young came to Corydon to speak and seek support from our www.CorydonTeaParty.org on Feb 23,2010. It only took a few minutes to realize that THIS IS THE MAN WHO SHOULD / COULD BE PRESIDENT!!!   At one point he promised to pledge IN WRITING his fidelity to cast his votes in Congress in the best interests of the people of Indiana's 9th district—under penalty of immediate removal—if he should EVER fail to deliver on that promise.

I am most pleased to report that through the efforts of thousands of Patriots in a national organization called www.OurCaucus.com —THAT PROMISE IS NOW FULFILLED. This critical process is called vetting. The members of Our Caucus assembled 80 critical questions selected to ensure that our Constitution and fiscal integrity will once again be restored to our once-great country.   YOU HOLD THE KEY WITH YOUR VOTE!!! All you have to do is vote for a candidate WHO HAS BEEN "VETTED". It is preferable, but NOT NECESSARY for you to attend Patriot meetings, study the Constitution etc, study vetting options, carry Patriot protest signs, put your life / good name "on the line"—all you have to do is vote intelligently—not emotionally—for a candidate who has been vetted with OurCaucus or www.GOOOH.com . Some 20 million of us Patriots have done the hard work while the silent majority sat on the couch. WE will gladly continue or work with vigilance and diligence just because we deeply love our country and our children.   NEVER BEFORE have our candidates had a WRITTEN JOB DESCRIPTION WITH CONSEQUENCES—THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING!!! This will destroy the power of party bosses, remove MONEY from the political cesspool, and get America BACK ON TRACK! Make SURE your favorite candidate, for ANY office, is vetted—PERIOD!!! Otherwise you are just hearing campaign promises!   I personally believe that the sooner we get 546 candidates vetted and elected you will be amazed at how quickly America will rebound. Pre-Endorsement Conference-US House District 9

Independence Caucus

Indiana District 9

Candidate Vetting Steering Committee

Results and Recommendations

United States House of Representatives:

The candidate vetting process for Indiana's ninth district, U.S. House of Representatives seat, currently held by Baron Hill, has been concluded.

All known fiscally responsible, strict constitutionalist, candidates have been invited to participate in the Independence Caucus vetting process.  The steering committee has likened this process to a job interview.  We the people are hiring someone to represent us, and the very least they can do is show up and answer our questions.

Our responsibility now, is to review the results of the vetting process, and to place our summary findings (which follow) on the Ning site, along with any recorded interviews. There will be a period of one week for members to review our findings, ask questions, get responses, and prepare to vote on candidate endorsement.  The date to start the one week period is March 13, 2010.

In order to fulfill this responsibility, we, members of Independence Caucus, have a duty to remain objective about the candidates' qualifications, resume, political conservatism, strict constitutionalist principles, and, electability.  If more than one candidate decides to participate, we must be fair and objective in our analysis of the candidates.  If only one candidate participates (often NOT the case), we still have an obligation to evaluate a candidate's fitness to serve, under the foregoing criteria, even if the candidate selected is not your personal favorite.

Remember, if the single candidate is not your personal favorite, that could mean that your favorite refused to participate in the vetting process, and is not qualified, under the rules.  Such is the case in District 9.  Every effort has been extended to get all candidates, appearing to meet the qualifications, to participate, and those who refused, knew they could not be endorsed.

Once endorsed, it is our job to get the endorsed candidate elected in the primary and in the November general elections.

Evaluation of All Candidates Invited to Participate:

Mike Sodrel

Although Mike was offered a chance to be vetted, on several occasions and was sent the vetting questions, he refused.

He is a man we admire for all of his accomplishments.  However, the Steering Committee's view is, if candidates expect our support, but don't respect the Tea Party/Freedom movement enough to answer our questions and participate in the vetting process, they are part of the problem and unworthy of our support.

He did not participate in the vetting process, and, therefore, can't be vetted, nor endorsed.

Travis Hankins

Travis Hankins initially sought our endorsement.  He was forwarded the 80 question test, which he took.  He was also given information about Independence Caucus and how the vetting process worked.

Then, when it was time for the candidate interview, Travis did not respond to e-mail and telephone messages, requesting a date and time that would work for him.  On February 18, 2010, his campaign team sent a message indicating that Travis did not seek the endorsement of any group.  They also indicated that Travis would not participate "when it is a competition of sorts (emphasis added) for an endorsement; and your group has made it seem in the past that this was the case."

The Steering Committee's view is, an election is a competition.  Just showing up, does not "win" an endorsement.  If candidates expect our support, but don't respect the Tea Party/Freedom movement enough to answer our questions and participate in the vetting process, they are part of the problem and unworthy of our support.

He did not complete the vetting process, and, therefore, can't be vetted, nor endorsed.

Todd Young

Todd Young was offered an opportunity to participate in the vetting process, and, kept his word.  The only candidate to participate in our Citizens' candidate vetting, his interview is available on video at the links below.  It is important to note that no candidate is aware of the questions in advance of the interview.  Thus, the responses to the questions are not rehearsed.  Since Todd Young scored a perfect 100% on the 80 question vetting questionnaire, the questionnaire is not included.

Todd has a remarkable record of service and accomplishment (see a portion of his resume, from his web site, in the attached file).

His campaign style is very professional, respectful and on target with the fiscally responsible, strict Constitutional construction we seek.

The Steering Committee has concluded that Todd Young is highly qualified, committed to fiscal responsibility through adherence to constitutional authority, and worthy of our endorsement.

We encourage all members to view/listen to the recorded interview and review Todd Young's website.  Any discussions among iCaucus members should be posted to this discussion site.  If you have questions for Todd Young, please post those to the separate discussion group, entitled "Todd Young: Questions & Answers", where all questions for the candidate and responses will be posted.

The vote for endorsement link will be emailed to members, after this one week conference period has ended.

Has Mike Sodrel lost his political marbles?

I can't figure it out. That is, I can't figure out what kind of campaign Mike Sodrel is allegedly running.

Weeks and weeks and…weeeeeeeks ago I attempted to contact the campaign of  Iron Mike. It was a difficult, since there was no contact email on Mike's website. Another thing I found weird was that Mike had no outline for his campaign platform on his site. To date, he still hasn't outlined his key positions online…or, to my knowledge, anywhere else. I just can't imagine what he could be thinking. This kind of "behavior" sends a very negative message to voters. in the 9th District.  But wait…it gets worse.

After a friend of mine at the Corydon Tea Party provided me with Mike's email, I sent a message to his campaign. I suggested that he correct the two considerations I mentioned above by adding a contact page and a platform page to his website. Then I waited, and waited some more.

Finally, much to my satisfaction, I logged onto the internet one day to not only find a totally revamped homepage for Mike, but a contact page as well. Yay Mike! So I took the opportunity to use it and sent a query to Mike concerning free trade. Specifically, I wanted to know what, if any, action he would take regarding NAFTA and the WTO, should he get elected.  Next, I sent the same questions to Todd Young's campaign. It took a few weeks, but Todd did get  back to me and answered my questions in a satisfactory manner, for which I am extremely grateful.

Mike, on the other hand, never did get back to me. Not even a form letter from one of his staffers. In the intervening weeks since I tried to contact his campaign, I found out that he refused to be vetted by the 9th District Independence Caucus.  I also found out that he has been ducking "the weekly public debates he agreed to in January," with Republican candidate Todd Young.

The Madison Courier notes that the Madison Area Chamber of Commerce offered Mike Sodrel nine different scheduling options for the debate, and his campaign declined each one. The Courier quotes the Chamber's Executive Director, David Collier, as saying, "we had everyone lined up. Everyone agreed. Then I got one email back from his (Sodrel's) office saying they declined. We had moved the date twice… we offered nine different options."

You have to wonder why Mike is running a "How not to run a political campaign" uh…campaign. Does he think that voters will support him, when he seems so…(How does one say it?) aloof? Why wouldn't he allow the 9th District Independence Caucus to interview him for the office he expects to win in November…an office where We The People are in the position of employer, while those running for the office are in the position of employee? Why is he dodging his debate obligations? Because he's too busy? I don't get it. It just doesn't make sense.
